Consider your bedroom as the place where you can retreat to at any time of the day. Of all your rooms this one should bring you piece of mind and allow you to escape from the busy, noisy world.

Your taste and bedroom design is unique to you and no matter whether you are a minimalist, traditionalist or splendorist, try to keep your bedroom design calm and free from clutter.

Whichever bedroom you are redesigning or updating, the same principles should be applied. Therefore take some time to decide what your dream come true master bedroom would look like, or how your kids bedrooms could look or what would be the envy of all for the the all important design for a teenage room. CONCEPT: decide and finalize your ideas/look/theme

A concept is your style, look and feel. By now you will have spent lots of time looking at different design ideas, images in magazines and no doubt searched through the internet too.

COLOR: choose bedroom paint colors to work with your style

My experience lends itself to suggest to you to keep a simple, clean color palette for your bedroom(s). Accent walls should also be fairly muted however, color is a very personal choice and you are creating your dream space so be confident and select what makes you feel happy. FURNITURE: make sure all new items will fit within your space

The key items for consideration are: a good bed, bedside tables, bedside lamps, a set of drawers, a dressing table, a stool, an armchair, a wardrobe (if there isn't one already fitted), bookcase or shelving and artwork.

LAYOUT: prepare sketch options to look at what space you have available

Using a measuring tape take note of the length and breadth of the room. Try to get this as accurate as possible so you know exactly what the internal room size is. Take any sheet of paper and get sketching. Enjoy it! There is a section packed with information called house floor plans in the how to section to guide you.

STORAGE: a place for everything and everything in its place

Integrating wardrobes into your space will create a smooth and harmonious look. There are various ways to do this. You could go for a budget option where the standard height is usually 2.3 meters then get a joiner to build a matching plinth to raise then up off the floor this will add good height to your wardrobes and make them look more luxurious. Inside organize drawer space, shelving and a hanging rail at the right height. Get yourself a linen bin so your laundry can go straight in it. Or you may prefer to go for an individual wardrobe like the shabby chic style in the image below.

LIGHTING: select to create the best atmospheric condition every time!

The main source of lighting in your bedroom design should be from bedside lamps.

These are the most important addition to your room so choose lamps that have good lighting levels for reading, which add to the ambiance of your room and since this is a focal area then they should look great too.
