In the UK home theater design is not quite the same as it is in the USA. When home theater design is discussed in the UK, it is usually a conversation about the t.v. and it's sound system. However, in America a home theater would be a room dedicated to recreational, family time.

Home theater room design should be a fun experience. It is the room in the home that should bring the family together to relax, watch movies, play games and talk openly. So if you have space within your home to create a home theater or family room then do it. Go for it.

Lets think about COST: As with any project you should have a budget worked out which will dictate your spend. This will ultimately help you choose what kind of home theater design you can afford. Should you decide to build a full theater be sure to cost everything down to the last T, as this is a big addition into your home and could be costly.

There are four main points of consideration:

1. COLOR: your color scheme could be from built around a dark palette.

The darker tones help your home theater design look like a mini movie theater and a dark color scheme emphasizes focus on the screen. This is your design and you may prefer lighter colors for your theatre. Put some ideas onto your mood board to create a visual of direction you're heading. This will help you with your final selections.

Walls - a great choice would be a paint finish in a vinyl matt emulsion or perhaps a beautiful dark wallpaper. There are so many incredible ranges to choose from so have fun selecting.

Floor - Whether you decide to go for a dark or a mid toned color scheme I recommend a dark carpet. Simply because it will increase your comfort whilst watching your movies. The carpet will also reduce unwanted sound and feels great underneath your feet.

Ceiling - it's a good idea to paint the ceiling in darker tones. You can use black but it is not vital. A brown or gray tone works well.

Seating - red is the popular color for theater seating however there is a huge variety of fabrics available to choose from. My personal choice of upholstery is a simple, black leather or chocolate brown BUT there are endless, incredible ranges so I have on occasion opted for an alternative.

2. SEATING: This is where a theater room gets exciting as there are good options for you to choose from. Large rooms can accommodate stadium seating. This is a tired arrangement much like what you would find in a movie theater. Theater seats are popular for a smaller room. The image below shows how you can arrange seating. 3. LIGHTING: Lighting should not detract from your viewing experience so subtle lighting works well. Recessed lighting and concealed lighting where possible is ideal or wall fixtures at the back of the room are great for home theater interior design. LED floor lighting can be left on while the rest of the lighting is off during a movie session.

4. VISUAL + AUDIO: No home theater design is complete without great sound and visual. You are looking for maximum clarity within your room therefore consider how many speakers you will require and where the best place to have them installed.

Family Room Interior Design

Why not convert your basement layout to create a den for your family to enjoy or update a room which is not used much, into a fabulous fun hangout space for all family members to use at the same time. Basement decorating can be a lot of fun!

The interior should be casual spaces so when it comes to selecting furniture and family room decor there is a huge variety. Think about the environment you would like to create and begin to put your ideas onto your mood board. This way you can see how the look/feel or your family room interior design will eventually be.
