When it comes to creating a new and improved living room design, I applaud you and urge you up and onwards. This space in your home should say something about you. It should say, that you love your home and enjoy spending time with friends and family.
|
Your living room should be versatile to accommodate and meet your needs. You perhaps listen to music in this room, watch tv, movies, celebrate birthdays, hold parties, chat, bring your guests into this room to relax and enjoy their company. There are many varied functions, therefore you should allow yourself to really enjoy recreating a wonderful living room design. The image on the right shows how a bold, color choice of living room decor can work within a neutral color scheme. The strong pink really adds to the room without being over the top. |
Living room interiors should enhance your leisure time by being both practical and comfortable. The image below shows how living room decor can work to incorporate a home office.

The above left image shows a fairly formal living room whereas the right image is an example of a modern space.
FOCAL POINT:
Should you be fortunate to have a fireplace, then this truly is your focal point. A fireplace is where you gather to share family time, stay warm and chat about your day. However, in most modern homes, the fireplace has been replaced with a t.v.
Your t.v. should be part of your room layout so that it becomes integrated rather than like an alien object. Arrange your furniture in a way that makes viewing easy and comfortable.
A rug placed in front of your t.v. or fireplace adds a wonderful touch of warmth especially if your concept is contemporary or minimalism.
The images below show a few great examples of how it is possible to integrate your t.v. into your room.
TIP: Make sure that your entrance is clear so that the room welcomes you. With that in mind, avoid having the back of your sofa directly at the doorway. Basically try to keep your traffic lanes free so that access flows and keeps the energy of your room flowing also.
Sofas: My advice to you is to get yourself a sofa that looks great and is super, super comfortable. Your sofa is likely to be the most influential piece of furniture within your room and therefore all other pieces relate to it in some way either by design, color or simply by placement in your space.
If you love the sofa you have at home at the moment, you can always update it by having it upholstered to fit into your new room design.
Accessorize your sofa with a large neutral or colorful throw, and some amazing scatter cushions that complement your room either by color or texture. Several small sized pillows in a mixed design, give a homely feel and a larger size is gives a modern look so get your balance right to create a sticking sitting area.
