Resin flooring is one of those finishes that not many people know much about therefore, it could be a wonderfully interesting addition into your interior design.
Gone are the days of only finding resin used as an industrial material or as a commercial finish to a shopping mall. Designers use resin flooring to create exceptional feature areas, break zones or cool arrival points.
Below is an example of how modern this type of flooring looks. It is so unusual and could bring an touch of WOW into your home. Imagine how incredible it could look in your kitchen or bathroom.
Of all the areas to have resin installed, my favorite places are, the bathroom, shower room and in a wet room. You can choose from a large color range, any design or pattern which makes it completely unique to you or choose from a portfolio of designs already prepared. The image below is to show you how arty you can go with resin. The bathroom has a funky, contemporary feel to it and would suit a modern home.
WHAT IS RESIN FLOORING?
Basically resin flooring or epoxy as it is sometimes called, is a synthetic material that is extremely durable and has a high impact resistance. One of the best advantages is that you can create a totally individual floor design which could be as simple or as grand as you like. Below are some of the benefits to consider:
- various finishes; super high gloss, anti-slip, wide range of color
- it is completely homogenous
- extremely hygienic and easy to clean
- low maintenance
- easily repaired (if necessary)
- choose a solvent free resin
On the right you can see how artisan this floor can become.
The installation is relatively quick and would need suitable time to properly set before it can be walked on. Normally a there is a 48 hour settling period.
It is important to avoid placing your furniture on top until it is fully cured.
An installer would advise you correctly on method and time scales.
The image below right shows a sensational high gloss finish which would look fantastic with almost any design concept. Particularly good in a contemporary interior design or a minimalistic interior.
Below you can see a couple of crowning glory examples which create a dramatic look to both spaces. It is a stylish and modern finish tailored to suit your design ideas and personal taste.
It
is applied to a concrete screed or an option is to lay 18-22mm marine
ply which creates the firm, flat underlay. As it dries you may notice a
layer of grease appear. This is normal and it is advisable to leave it
there for the first couple of weeks. Thereafter it can be washed off.
Costs for this type of finish are dictated by size and design. It can be costly however, it is probably not as expensive as you may think so it is definitely worth spending some time to check out.
There is a huge variety of finishes which could totally transform your home with an impact design or as a plain, flat
color.
You can have a UV coating applied to the top surface to prevent color fading.
